Review of Siesta Key, Florida

climate and lifestyle
Star Rating - 12/28/2007
like any sub-tropical paradise, the climate is the best and the worst all rolled into one. Today is Dec. 28th, 2007, the temperature is 82, the breeze is on, life is as good as it gets. It was just like it yesterday, the day before, last week and last month. It will be just like this for the next 5 months, but then it will begin to heat up and coming around July, the other end of the spectrum will provide for extreme humidity, thunderstorms daily, with the threat of a hurricane here and then. While the area has not been hit in God knows how many years, and never in a devestating fashion, the thought is possiblity is there and the media does not let us to forget that. Don't bother to watch the weather on TV and if you must, watch ABC or the weather channel, all the others are just hypping the situation to the max, and trying to cash in on every possible weather situation no matter how minute, as in like we don't know that since we live here.
The sand on the beach is incredibly beautiful and probably the very finest in the world. Siesta Key is still charming, shorts and flip flops kind of place, a little hide away only minutes from downtown Sarasota but the pressure of the allmighty green back will eventually turn it into a Ft. Lauderdale type neighborhood.

Rich, I agree with everything you wrote except for one thing. No one, and I mean, NO ONE hypes the weather up unnecessarily like Jim "get me to ground zero" Cantori and the rest of the weather spin doctors at The Weather Channel. I swear every year, it gets worse. Now they have Stefanie Abrams and Mike Bettes, who look to Cantori like some kind of weather demigod or something and they are just as bad. This year, (I forget during which storm it was, they actually looked sad and disappointed that there wasn't more damage and catastrophic winds once the storm made landfall). They're all sick, I tell you. Reminds me of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" - ("We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five, she can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye... I'ts interesting when people die- give us dirty laundry"). Anyway, I agree... Siesta Key is pretty much a slice a paradise if you can afford to live here. Check out those median home prices folks. A little steep for some. Rich is right though. Right about now... it's PERFECT weather. In four months, the tide will turn and the heat returns. Typical tropics. Nice beaches, good surf fishing and beach swimming for the little ones. I HOPE this place NEVER turns into Ft. Lauderdale. What a cesspool that city has become.
